So are the Coyotes getting the 2011 NHL All-Star Game or aren’t they?
Back in January of 2009, we posted a report (via RDS) that the Phoenix Coyotes, during the 2009 All-Star Game in Montreal, were offered the opportunity to host the 2011 NHL All-Star Game in Phoenix/Glendale.
You hard core fans may remember that the Phoenix Coyotes were supposed to host the 2005 All-Star Game but didn’t due to the dispute between the Owners and the NHL players that led to a work stoppage.
In July of 2009 we attended a press conference in Scottsdale and asked NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly if the 2011 All-Star Game was indeed coming to Phoenix (based on the initial RDS report).
At the time he wasn’t prepared to make an announcement about an All-Star Game in Phoenix. This was completely understandable given the nature of the bankruptcy proceedings and the attention that was needed for the court case.
But….Mr Daly did say this:
‘Phoenix is owed an All-Star game and we have every intention to make good on the promise to the people of Glendale and the City of Phoenix on bringing an All-Star Game here in the near future.’
Mr. Daly continued….
‘Yes, there will be an All-Star Game here.’

Now fast forward to today…
The NHL just released this article:

….with the following sentence that people should pay attention to.
The NHL has asked teams interested in hosting an All-Star Game in 2011, 2012 or 2013 to submit their application by Feb. 8.
So that’s a ‘no’ to the All-Star Game in Phoenix then?
