UPDATE – USA Hockey to announce replacement defensemen no later than Friday – Yandle anyone?
If you follow the NHL, or the events surrounding USA Hockey at the upcoming 2010 Olympic games in Vancouver later this month, you will know that NHL defensemen Mike Komisarek (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Paul Martin (New Jersey Devils) are out of their respective teams lineups due to injury. This also means that they will not be representing Team USA in the Men’s Hockey Tournament at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
There’s been lots of rumors going around in the Twitter-verse, in the media, and on many Hockey related forums (Coyotes ones as well) regarding who will replace Komisarek and Martin for Team USA. A representative for USA Hockey told AZ Vibe via e-mail this evening that the two replacements at the defensemen position will be made known this Thursday or Friday. A decision will be reached as soon as the USA Hockey management team, led by General Manager Brian Burke (President & GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs), have a chance to discuss their options on who will best represent Team USA at the Olympics.
Now you Coyotes fans are wondering if Keith Yandle is an option for Team USA in the Olympics, right?
You may have read reports on the Coyotes website and may have listened to today’s interview with Keith Yandle on the Power Play show (NHL Network) saying that he won’t/may not play in the Olympics. As far as USA Hockey is concerned, Keith Yandle is a ‘worthy candidate’ to replace either Komisarek’s or Martin’s roster spots.
Whether he will be called on to represent his country is all up to the brain trust at USA Hockey….
*Update* 9:30 AM Arizona Time – February 4th, 2010
USA Hockey has called a press conference for 3 PM EST to announce the roster replacements for Mike Komisarek and Paul Martin.
