Phoenix Coyotes fans are divided about defenseman Ed Jovanovski’s two game suspension for elbowing the Islanders rookie phenom John Tavarez in the head and if the suspension was deserved or not.
For those of you who haven’t seen the hit that suspended Jovanovski, here it is (pay attention to the area in front of Bryzgalov):
This suspension was deserved. Had he not been a ‘repeat offender’ in the NHL’s eyes he would have not been suspended. Jovanoski was given a 5 minute major penalty and a game misconduct for the incident. Had Jovanovski not be penalized for the incident he would have been suspended anywhere between 4 and 6 games.
Those are the rules that are spelled out for players, team, and fans. Jovanovski broke them and now he’s got to sit through two games with San Jose and the New Jersey Devils.
