The Coyotes start a four game road trip in Detroit to build on their 8 game unbeaten streak against the once mighty Red Wings. For whatever reason, the Red Wings seem to be a shadow of their former selves. However, one look at their injury list is one indicator of how bad of a season the Red Wings are having. Even Chris Osgood, during this season, said that he wasn’t playing very well.
The Red Wings may be 3-1-1 in their last five but they are a so-so 5-4-1 in their last 10. With all their injuries it may be the fact that their second, third, and fourth lines are the problems in reference to scoring.
I haven’t scouted the Red Wings this season so you all will be getting the first look at this team too.
It’s almost game time! Go Coyotes!
Things to watch for:
Todd Bertuzzi – He may be finding a re-birth of his scoring touch as he has four goals in his last two games including two over time winners.
Jim Vandermeer – Will he be sitting in the press box or have reduced time for the boneheaded penalty he took that allowed the San Jose Sharks to score on a 4 on 3 PP?
Coyotes Offense – They have been starting to get better and better in their offensive zone (PP included). Will we see a breakout in scoring or with their offensive game in general?
Keys to the Game:
Keep it going – The Coyote have played some great (but sometimes not perfect) hockey in the last 8 games. Let’s see if they can keep up the winning attitude against the struggling Red Wings.
Stupid Penalties – They’re not just penalties….they’re stupid penalties and the Coyotes seem to take 1 to 2 a game. Last time it cost them a goal and Bryzgalov’s shutout.
Game Notes:
- Jovocop is back in the lineup tonight after serving a two game suspension.
- Bryzgalov was awarded the NHL Third Star for the past week!
- Bryzgalov is 4 wins away from 100 for his career
- Shane Doan is three games away from 1000 on his career
