The San Jose Sharks come into the Jobing.com arena for the second of six matchup on the season. The Sharks have a a 1-1-3 in their last five and have struggled against teams they are supposed to be beating. They now come into the Jobing.com Arena and play against yet another team with extremely stingy defense.
The last time these two teams squared off in San Jose it was a classic defensive battle all the way to the shootout. No one expected these two teams to match up so perfectly as San Jose has lived up to the hype of being a scoring/wrecking machine so far this season.
The players to watch are not only the obvious cast of characters (Thornton, Marleau, Heatley) but their secondary scoring as well.
Things to watch for:
Coyotes Defense vs. San Jose Offense (Includes special teams) – The Coyotes are quickly building a reputation for having one of the best defenses in the league and will be getting a test against one of the best offenses in the league.
Coyotes Offense vs San Jose Defense – The Sharks have great defense and with the Coyotes offense now starting to gain momentum, this is a great test for the Coyotes against one of the best teams in the west
Keys to the game:
Discipline: The Two Kings goals allowed were from the lack of discipline by the Coyotes from the neutral zone to the defensive zone. This cannot happen at all tonight.
Keep up the attitude – The Coyotes can beat the Sharks. They have the tools, ability, and know how to beat the Teal clad skaters from the bay. They have to show it.
Players who are out of the lineup:
Coyotes: Sauer (IR), Jovanovski (suspension)
Sharks: Jody Shelly,Brad Staubitz
Officials:
Referees Dennis LaRue, Justin St. Pierre
Linesmen Mark Pare, Thor Nelson
Notes:
- Coyotes have killed off 17 consecutive penalties.
- Ilya Bryzgalov is 5 wins away from 100 for his career
- Shane Doan is 4 games away for 1000 for his career
