The Coyotes traveled off to Pittsburgh to see if they could follow up their great start to the season in LA against the Penguins. The Coyotes took advantage of a very undisciplined Penguins team as the Penguins spent a good portion of the game (or so it seems) in the penalty box. The Coyotes were able to capitalize on two of those opportunities.
Some of the problems with last night’s game that was noticed happened on the Coyotes PP unit was the inability to find the open man when being pressured.
The good things to take away from this game is 1) they were able to go toe to toe with the defending Stanley Cup Champions 2) they were able to fix the problems with the Penalty kill that were evident in LA on opening night.
Overall, it was a great game played by the Coyotes and it looks like the Coyotes are on the verge of doing something very special this season. One of the good things that is happening with the Coyotes this season was brought up on the Phoenix Coyotes twitter feed in that the Coyotes lacked any even strength goals against. However, it is still early in the season and the Coyotes have some work ahead of them before they can fully realize their potential.
Tonight: The Coyotes play the Buffalo Sabres in Buffalo. Game starts at 4:00 PM on FSN AZ. This will be a great measuring stick for the Coyotes not only with a back to back game but with a team that is VERY evenly matched with the Coyotes.
